High-Level Delegation Makes the Case
The Indian team was led by Harsh Sanghavi, Minister of Sports, Government of Gujarat, alongside Dr. P. T. Usha, President, Commonwealth Games Association (CGA) India. Senior officials from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Gujarat government, and Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation joined the delegation.
“Hosting the Centenary Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad will be a proud milestone, not just for Gujarat but for India,” said Sanghavi. “We see these Games as a catalyst — to inspire our youth, accelerate our journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047, and strengthen the Commonwealth Movement for the next 100 years.”
Compact, Inclusive, and Sustainable
India’s bid places strong emphasis on affordability, inclusivity, gender equity, human rights protection, and integration of para-sports. Organizers promised a long-term legacy framework, ensuring that the benefits of hosting extend beyond athletes to communities and the wider Commonwealth.
Dr. P. T. Usha said, “India’s bid is not just about capability, but about values. Ahmedabad is ready to pick up the baton from Glasgow 2026 and act as a springboard to the 2034 Games, ensuring that the Centenary edition honours the past while shaping the future of Commonwealth Sport.”
Ahmedabad’s Track Record in Sports Hosting
Ahmedabad has repeatedly proven itself as a reliable venue for global sporting events. From the ICC Cricket World Cup and Indian Premier League to the 2022 National Games, the city has developed robust operational expertise. In the run-up to 2030, Ahmedabad is also set to host the Asian Aquatics 2025, Asian Weightlifting Championships 2026, and World Police and Fire Games 2029, further strengthening its candidacy.
National Backing and Global Ambition
The proposal reflects strong support from both the Government of India and the Government of Gujarat, along with CGA India. Together, they emphasized delivering a Games that are compact, sustainable, and globally impactful, designed to showcase India’s readiness for large-scale sporting spectacles.
