Surat, Gujarat – As the I-Day approaches, more than the rest of the country in India, the sense of patriotism and joy is prevailing in the country’s largest man-made textile (MMF) industry in Surat. Textile traders in Surat stated that they have received orders for the tri-colour from Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and other states. With more than 3.5 crore tri-colour to be supplied from Surat, the industry is staring at business turnover to the tune of Rs 100 crore in the next 10 days.

A large portion of this order has been received by Pravin Gupta, a well-known textile trader from Surat. He alone has received orders to make more than one crore national flags of various sizes. Pravin Gupta, who is known as the country’s famous flag maker, has a textile firm that specializes in making huge flags seen in international events like the World Cup and T20 World Cup. His company specializes in making large-sized flags.

Pravin Gupta said, “Keeping in mind Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, we have started making the national flag. We feel proud while making this tricolor. He further added that earlier the national flag was mainly imported from China and even today some flags are coming from there”

Pravin Gupta has received a large order from the governments of Gujarat, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. Apart from this, wholesale traders from across the country have also placed large orders. Interestingly, the highest demand is currently for small size tricolours. Such as 5×3 inches and 20×30 inches. These small flags are popular for gifting, use by students of schools and colleges and for placing in vehicles and offices. However, larger flags like 20×30 feet are also being made.

To make the tricolour more memorable, some flags are also being given in special frames. Which can be preserved as a permanent memento. This initiative is not only boosting the local industry, but is also strengthening the message of ‘Made in India’.

Kailash Hakim, director of the Federation of Textiles Surat Traders Association (FOSTTA), said that this year Surat has received orders for about three and a half crore tricolours. Due to which a business of Rs 100 crore can be done. There are about 25 major industrialists in Surat who are known as experts only in making flags and these orders come to them.
