Surat, Gujarat — In a bid to recognize and reward exemplary service delivery through e-governance initiatives, Palsana Gram Panchayat in Surat district has emerged as a frontrunner, making it to the final six contenders nationwide for the prestigious National Awards for Service Delivery. This accolade, instituted by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), aims to honor local bodies for leveraging technology effectively to enhance governance.

The journey to this achievement began with a rigorous evaluation process encompassing over 1.44 lakh responses from Gram Panchayats across 26 states and union territories. After thorough scrutiny at the block, district, and state levels, a select group of 19 Gram Panchayats were shortlisted for national-level evaluation. Among them, Palsana Gram Panchayat stood out as the sole representative from Gujarat.

Currently, a two-member team comprising Under Secretaries Ranganath Upadhyay from the Union Department of Science and Technology and Vinod Samant from the Rural Development Department has descended upon Palsana. Their mission: to conduct an intensive survey and project verification over two days. The focus of their assessment includes the implementation of e-governance initiatives and the overall impact of technological interventions on local governance practices.

The officials from Delhi are collaborating closely with local authorities, including Surat District Development Officer Shivani Goyal, Deputy District Development Officer Piyush Patel, Gram Panchayat Sarpanch Praveen Ahir, and vice-sarpanch Paresh Maisuria. Together, they are meticulously reviewing every facet of Palsana Gram Panchayat’s technological adoption and its transformative effects on service delivery.

“The commitment displayed by Palsana Gram Panchayat towards innovation and efficiency in service delivery has been commendable,” remarked Shivani Goyal, reflecting on the collaborative efforts underway.

For Palsana, this recognition marks a culmination of sustained efforts aimed at leveraging technology to bridge governance gaps and enhance citizen-centric services. The accolade not only validates their pioneering initiatives but also sets a benchmark for other local bodies aspiring to emulate similar success stories in e-governance.

Following the completion of the site study and project verification, the National Panchayat Performance Assessment Committee will finalize the recipient of the National Award for Service Delivery. The anticipation is palpable as Palsana Gram Panchayat awaits the outcome, optimistic about the impact of their initiatives on rural development and governance practices.
