Navsari : : A shocking case of alleged medical negligence has emerged from Shalby Hospital in Surat, where a 33-year-old man from Jalalpore, Navsari, lost his life after multiple surgeries and treatments. His family has accused Dr. Jenny Gandhi and other doctors of criminal negligence, leading to his suffering and eventual death. The case has now reached the Navsari District Police and the Gujarat Medical Council, sparking outrage in the medical community.

A Simple Ailment Turns into a Nightmare

Kaushik Patel, a medical representative working for FDC Pharma, was initially diagnosed with a common kidney stone problem. On November 15, 2024, while on duty in Vansda, he experienced severe abdominal pain and underwent a sonography at a local imaging center. When his pain persisted, he was admitted to Navsari’s Sardar Patel Hospital, where a CT scan suggested he needed surgical intervention.

Due to the hospital’s limitations, Kaushik was shifted to INS Hospital, where specialists identified a clot in the artery connecting the heart and intestines. Initially, Dr. Jenny Gandhi recommended an expensive catheter procedure costing ₹9 lakh but later changed the treatment plan to thrombolysis.

A Series of Questionable Surgeries

Despite the family’s consent, proper fitness reports were not obtained before proceeding with the operation on November 17. Post-surgery complications arose—Kaushik lost movement in his right leg, experienced extreme pain, and developed stomach tightness. Doctors at INS Hospital later claimed that the blood flow to his intestines had stopped, leading to gangrene.

In a desperate move, Kaushik was transferred to Shalby Hospital, Surat, under Dr. Jenny Gandhi’s reference. What followed was a series of surgeries between November 19 and December 6, performed by multiple doctors, including Dr. Jay Choksi, Dr. Yogesh Shukla, and Dr. Ishita Shah. Despite assurances of success, Kaushik’s condition worsened. His leg was amputated on December 6, and he succumbed to complications on December 14.

Family Alleges Cover-Up and Malpractice

Kaushik’s sister, Sonalben, and his family members allege that unnecessary surgeries were conducted to mask the initial treatment errors. They claim that instead of addressing the root cause, doctors repeatedly operated on Kaushik, ultimately worsening his condition. After reviewing the medical reports with independent experts, the family realized the initial thrombolysis procedure at INS Hospital may not have been required at all.

The family has now lodged a formal complaint with the Navsari police and the Gujarat Medical Council, demanding strict action against Dr. Jenny Gandhi and Shalby Hospital’s management.
