Surat : In a shocking incident at a wedding in Surat’s Dindoli area, BJP worker Umesh Tiwari allegedly fired five rounds from his licensed revolver, injuring two people. The incident, which occurred on the night of December 8, was captured on CCTV cameras, raising questions about negligence and public safety.

Firing During Festivities

The shooting occurred during a wedding celebration in Shakti Society, where Umesh Tiwari, the owner of Dennis Cake in Adajan and a long-time BJP member, was seen dancing to DJ music. Displaying his revolver, Tiwari fired three rounds into the air and two toward the ground, accidentally injuring two young men.

One of the injured, Santosh Dubey, who filed the complaint, sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. The other injured individual, Virendra Vishwakarma, also suffered a similar injury. Both victims were quickly shifted to a hospital for treatment.

The CCTV footage from the venue shows the chaos that ensued after the shots were fired. One of the injured men is seen sitting on a chair before collapsing, while Umesh Tiwari continued to display his revolver openly, even while eating.

Police and Bomb Squad Respond

The Dindoli police promptly arrived at the scene and detained Umesh Tiwari. A bomb squad team was also called to ensure public safety. Authorities conducted a detailed investigation, including a panchnama, and confiscated Tiwari’s revolver.

DCP Bhagirath Gadhvi confirmed that Tiwari fired five rounds, resulting in injuries to two individuals. “We have initiated the process to cancel his revolver license due to negligence and violation of rules,” he said.

Political Connections and Public Image

Umesh Tiwari, a prominent BJP worker, has been an active figure in Surat’s political landscape. Originally from Uttar Pradesh, Tiwari has lived in Surat for years and previously contested for the position of ward president in Ward 27, Dindoli. He had also sought a ticket in the Surat Municipal Corporation elections.

Known for his domineering personality, Tiwari is often seen with a revolver at his waist. His pictures with senior BJP leaders have surfaced, intensifying the political implications of the incident.

Legal Action Underway

The police have registered a case against Umesh Tiwari for negligence and misuse of a licensed weapon. Along with confiscating his revolver, the authorities are pressing charges that could lead to the cancellation of his gun license.
