Surat : A first-year resident doctor studying anaesthesia and living in the hostel of the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC)-run SMIMER medical college died of dengue on late Thursday night. Dhara Chavda, 24, a first year resident doctor at SMIMER medical college in Surat was admitted to the private hospital by her family members when she complained of vomiting and worsening health. A resident of Ahmedabad, Dhara was living in the SMIMER hospital to pursue her first-year in the Department of Anesthesia.

Sources said that the deceased was suffering from fever for the last four days. After her health deteriorated on Sunday last, she was admitted to the SMIMER hospital. The blood test confirmed that Dhara was suffering from Dengue.

When the family came to know, they took Dhara to a private hospital for further treatment, where she was on a ventilator. Similarly, Khodidas Savalia (26) living at Yogi Chowk Tirupati Society was undergoing treatment for dengue in a private hospital for three days, where he died on Thursday.

There have been 8 deaths due to dengue in the last two months. However, in 4 months, 87 cases have been registered in the municipal register. While 239 dengue patients have been admitted in Civil. 155 patients have been admitted to the hospital in August. While 21 patients have been admitted in 10 days of September.

Dr. Deepak Hawle, dean of SMIMER Medical college, said that Dhara had a fever for the last six days and she was taking medicines herself without consulting a senior doctor. After a report of dengue, she was admitted to a private hospital, where she died on Thursday after brain swelling, heart and liver infection.

Currently, more cases of dengue are coming, in which the patient has to be admitted. When it rains continuously, the breeding of mosquitoes is reduced, but as soon as the rains stop, the infestation increases. Their breeding increases especially when they get sunlight. This type of situation has been occurring frequently in the city for some time now, due to which mosquitoes and especially dengue mosquitoes are increasing. After a few days there may be a reduction in mosquito breeding, revealed the doctors.
