Surat : In a unique initiative, students of Navchetan Adani Vidyalaya in Junagam are taking a green approach to this year’s Ganesh festival. A month-long preparation period saw students designing and creating eco-friendly Ganesha idols made entirely of clay. With a focus on environmental preservation, these idols also contain seeds that will sprout into plants after the immersion of the statues.

The preparations for the Ganesh festival at Navchetan Adani Vidyalaya began a month in advance, with students receiving training on how to make environmentally friendly clay idols. Teachers emphasized the harmful effects of plaster of Paris idols, which can pollute water bodies. As an alternative, students were encouraged to create Ganesha statues from natural clay, embedding seeds in the clay to symbolize new life.

In total, the students crafted 70 clay idols, with one special statue installed in the school. Many students also took the initiative to install these eco-friendly idols in their homes. The unique aspect of these idols is that, after the Ganesh festival, the statues will be dissolved in water or placed in gardens, allowing the embedded seeds to grow into plants, ensuring that the celebration leaves behind a positive environmental impact.

The goal of this initiative was to raise awareness among students about the importance of protecting the environment and to inspire future generations to be mindful of water and land pollution. Teachers and students alike hope that this approach to the Ganesh festival will lead to more sustainable practices in the wider community.

This activity encourages young minds to take part in preserving the environment and showcases how traditional festivals can be celebrated with a modern, eco-conscious twist.
