Surat : All hell broke out in Surat district’s Umarpada taluka after heavy rains on Monday. Umarpada had 14 inches of rain in four hours, flooding more than 16 roadways in the panchayat regions.

As many as 16 roads in Umarpada and Mandvi talukas in Surat district were closed for traffic as four inches of rain fell between 6 and 8 a.m., and ten inches between 8 and 10 a.m. in Umarpada taluka, also known as Cherrapunji in the district. Police and home guard members were stationed along restricted roads as needed.

Heavy rains inundated the narrow causeways and low-level bridges that connected one village to another.  The following roads were closed: Haldhari from Umarpada taluka to Haldhari, Sharda to new settlement road, Shampur to Umarzar, Balalakuwa Vahar, Umarzar Sarvan Fokdi to Navagam Tundi, Pada Approach Road, Chitlada to Godalia, to Chandrapada, to Godalia, to Chandrapada, Limda roads, Goddha Ladkuwa, Moritha to Kalibel Regama, Godsamba Karavalli Titoai Salaiya Valargarh roads. RNB authorities stated that people will be able to utilize alternative roads instead.

A downpour of 5 inches of rain in Netrang, Bharuch, has caused a flood-like situation.  Amravati and Kaveri rivers flowed from bank to bank.

However, severe rain and strong gusts have begun in Ahmedabad’s eastern region.

There has been a significant shift in the mood of Ahmedabad. Black clouds enveloped the city’s western section. Heavy winds and rains pummeled Chandkheda, New Ranip, Jagatpur, Naroda, Sardarnagar, Kotarpur, the airport, and the Indira Bridge. Hirawadi, Bapunagar, Kubernagar, and Sardarnagar airports are all inundated in the city’s east.

The Meteorological Department of Ahmedabad issued an Orange Alert on Monday.
