Ahmedabad : As the final day for filing nomination forms drew to a close on Friday, the political landscape in Gujarat witnessed a significant development with the women’s wing of the Rajput coordination committee declaring their support for Congress candidate Paresh Dhanani. This announcement comes in the wake of mounting dissatisfaction among Kshatriya leaders over the BJP’s failure to address concerns regarding the candidacy of Union Fisheries Minister Parshottam Rupala, sparking a rift within the community.

In a decisive move that accentuates shifting political allegiances, the women’s wing of the Rajput coordination committee has thrown its weight behind Congress candidate Paresh Dhanani, expressing disillusionment with the BJP leadership’s handling of the controversy surrounding Parshottam Rupala’s candidacy. Nainaba, a prominent Kshatriya women leader, affirmed their support for Dhanani, signaling a departure from the traditional stronghold of the BJP within the community.

Truptiba Raol, president of the women’s wing of the coordination committee of Rajputs, emphasized the pivotal role of Kshatriya women in influencing the electoral outcome, asserting their intention to cast a decisive vote in favor of the opposition. Raol revealed that initial plans to field 385 candidates were abandoned to avoid burdening the exchequer, opting instead to consolidate support behind a single candidate who champions their cause.

The backlash against Union Fisheries Minister Parshottam Rupala shows no signs of abating, with Kshatriya leaders vehemently opposing his candidacy as the BJP’s nominee from Rajkot. Rupala’s recent remarks at a program organized by the Valmiki community sparked outrage within the Kshatriya community, fueling demands for his withdrawal from the electoral race.

At the heart of the controversy are Rupala’s comments, where he purportedly glorified the Valmiki community’s resistance against British oppression while seemingly denigrating the role of princely states, including those led by Kshatriya rulers, during colonial rule. The remarks, perceived as derogatory by Kshatriya leaders, have prompted widespread protests and demands for accountability from the BJP leadership.

Speaking out against the perceived insult to Kshatriya women, Truptiba Raol asserted that the community’s dignity cannot be compromised, particularly in the face of disparaging remarks made by political leaders. Despite engaging with BJP leadership, including Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and state BJP president C R Paatil, Kshatriya leaders express frustration over the lack of meaningful action to address their grievances.

As the coordination committee of Kshatriyas convenes to chart their future course of action, the political fallout from Rupala’s candidacy continues to reverberate across Gujarat. The upcoming elections hold significant implications not only for the electoral fortunes of individual candidates but also for the broader dynamics of political representation and community empowerment in the state.
