Controversy Surrounding Parshottam Rupala Sparks Kshatriya-Patidar Divide in Rajkot

Ahmedabad : The political turmoil surrounding Union Minister Parshottam Rupala in Gujarat has ignited a clash of sentiments between the Kshatriya and Patidar communities in Rajkot. Despite Rupala’s public apologies for his contentious remarks, the Kshatriya community remains resolute in their demand for the cancellation of his candidacy for the Rajkot Lok Sabha seat. In a counter-move, the Patidars in Rajkot have rallied behind their community leader, Parshottam Rupala.

A meeting convened by trustees and leaders of prominent Patidar organizations took place in Rajkot, aimed at strategizing the way forward. Hosted at a factory premises owned by a Patidar leader in Shapar, on the outskirts of Rajkot city, the gathering discussed the future course of action in support of Rupala.

In a visible display of support, approximately 200 posters endorsing Rupala have been erected in Ambika township in Rajkot. Additionally, around 200 individuals associated with the Rajkot Youth Club have expressed their solidarity with Rupala’s candidacy for the Rajkot Lok Sabha seat.

Narendra Solanki, former corporator of the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) and now the Mahant of Apagiga Otla, stepped forward to appeal to the Kshatriya community for forgiveness towards Rupala.

At a meeting convened by the Rajkot Youth Club, attended by over 200 members of society, President Jignesh Kalavadia announced unanimous support for Rupala, emphasizing his commitment to the development of the region. Kalavadia further disclosed plans for a larger assembly of over 10,000 individuals in the near future.

Former BJP corporator of the Rajkot Municipal Corporation, now Mahant of Otla of Apagiga, Narendra Bapu, highlighted Rupala’s multiple apologies to the Kshatriya community, citing it as an unprecedented mistake in his four-decade-long political career. Bapu urged the Kshatriya community to demonstrate magnanimity and forgive Rupala for his transgression.

The escalating tensions between the Kshatriya and Patidar communities underscore the deep-rooted divisions within Gujarat’s political landscape. As the controversy persists, the coming days are poised to witness intensified rhetoric and mobilization efforts from both sides, shaping the dynamics of the upcoming elections in Rajkot and beyond.
