Amal Gandhi and Smit Thakkar's U2 Challengers easily defeated Elon Musk and his Space X Riders in the championship match
Ahmedabad : U2 Challengers triumphed at the CAIT YE Cricket Carnival 2023, capping up a flawless season dedicated to honouring a dear friend and fellow cricket fan.
Amal Gandhi and Smit Thakkar’s U2 Challengers easily defeated Elon Musk and his Space X Riders in the championship match. Space X Riders lost nine wickets while scoring 87 runs in their first innings. After losing only four wickets, the U2 Challengers reached their target in the 14th over and won the game. In his account of U2 Challengers and his friendship with Ujjwal Bhatt, Amal Gandhi evoked neither jubilation or celebration but rather deeply moving scenes.
For my dear friend Ujjwal Bhatt, who went away in December at the age of 34, I made the sole decision to buy the team. The group bears his name because he was better known as U2. Until his unexpected death, Ujjwal and I had been playing cricket together for years. I decided that taking part in this competition would be a fitting way to honour him. I’m glad we were able to win the championship in his honour,” Mr. Gandhi remarked.
Ujjwal Bhatt wasn’t the only U2 Challengers player who knew the other guys on the team.
To victory was secondary to the team’s participation in the competition for emotional reasons. Perhaps this was the key difference that led to our team’s superior chemistry, coordination, and body language, and ultimately to our victory. Ujjwal is the reason I was able to win and bring home the prize,” Gandhi continued.
Everyone present on occasion, including the losing finalists, the other teams, and the audience, had tears in their eyes when the winner’s trophy was handed over to Ujjwal Bhatt’s four-year-old son Aumansh. Brijesh Jardosh was named the best batsman of the tournament.
Among the women’s teams, Purefect Panthers scored an easy victory over Shagun Stars in the final match. Batting first, Purefect Panthers scored 86 runs for the loss of two wickets in the allotted 12 overs. In response, Shagun Stars could manage only 67 runs for the loss of six wickets. Palna Shah of Purefect Panthers was named woman of the series.
A total of ten men’s teams and four women’s teams participated in the CAIT YE Cricket Carnival 2023, organised by CAIT Young Entrepreneurs, the youth wing of Confederation of all India Traders (CAIT). The tournament took place at MK Farm Cricket Ground in Bhadaj from March 1 to 5.
