Karnataka : Due to pressure from the right-wing Hindu organisation Hindu Jagaran Vedike, the Kalaburagi railway station (formerly known as the Gulbarga railway station) had its walls painted white on Tuesday instead of green.

On Tuesday, the railroad terminal was under scrutiny after a group of Hindu nationalists protested outside the terminal, requesting that it be painted a different colour.

The green walls and dome shape of the train station make it look like a mosque in their eyes. They threatened to repaint the entire train station saffron if the green wasn’t removed within 15 days.

In the immediate aftermath of the protest, surveillance footage showed painters returning the station’s walls to their original white colour.

A Hindu activist named Lakshmikantha Sadhwi demanded that the green paint be removed from the railway station building. In addition, the Kannada flag’s yellow and red colours could be used. If not, the railroad station will be saffron coloured.

The authorities maintained that the painting was taken up on the orders of higher authorities. The painting was done based on the suggestion of architects.

Satyanarayana Desai, a staffer at the Kalaburagi railway station said that they will discuss getting the railway station painted in another colour and then make a decision.
