Surat’s Taal Group has been selected for the virtual Yeongdong World Folklore Festival 2021 organized in Korea.

Surat: The Surat-based Taal Group, an organization of the women for promoting the folk culture of Gujarat and India, has been selected to perform at the online version of Yeongdong World Folklore Festival 2021, organized by the International Council of Organisation of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts (CIOFF) being held in Korea between October 22 to October 24.

Women dancers of the Taal Group Surat will be performing online at the Yeongdong World Folklore Festival 2021. Other participants are from countries including Korea, Russia, Chile, Romania, India, Bolivia, and Indonesia.

The members of Taal Group Surat have performed at various National and International platforms with participants aged between 18-55 years.

The Taal Group Surat was established by Krutikla Shah, director, and choreographer. Krutika is an architect by profession and is a fanatic devotee of art and dance. She has a vision of taking the Indian Folk Dance to places and achieving recognition.

Krutika started learning Bharatnatyam at a very young age of four years from her Gurus—Neelaben and Reenbaben Raval—of Felicity Art in Surat. She has been teaching Bharatnatyam in the United States of America (USA) between 2005 to 2007.

Talking with TBT, Krutika Shah, director and choreographer of Taal Group Surat said, “We are highly elated to participate in the Yeongdong World Folklore Festival 2021. We are highly obliged to the CIOFF for considering the folk dancers of Taal group”

Shah said, “The Taal Group was founded in 2005 to promote and preserve the Indian folk culture and tradition”
