Daman to remain shut for visitors on weekends and public holidays.

Surat : Next time you plan a spirited weekend holiday at the watering hole in Daman then think twice.

The administration of Dadra and Nagar Haveli (DNH), Daman and Diu has issued an order stating the beaches and beach roads will be open for general public only on the week days. The beaches will remain closed for the public on weekends on public holidays.

Secretary of the health and family welfare of the Union Territory (UT) issued an order stating the Covid-19 cases in all the three districts of the UT is on the decline. The coronavirus situation in the neighboring Gujarat state is under control. However, beaches and beach roads will be open for general public, subject to strict enforcement of social distancing and wearing of masks.

Daman is the favourite watering hole for the Gujaratis, especially visitors from Surat. On the weekends alone, Moti and Nani daman is literally flooded by the visitors. An estimated 4 lakh visitors throng Daman during the weekends.

Sources said the administration has made it mandatory for the hotels to provide rooms to the tourists and visitors having negative RT-PCR tests or those who possess vaccination certificates.

The administration has allowed cinema theaters, multiplexes in the UT to function with 50% seating capacity, subject to strict observance of the SOPs and protocols issued.
