First ‘KHAN’ of Indian Cinema, Dilip Kumar dies at 98

Surat : Legendary act of the Indian cinema, Dilip Kumar a.k.a Mohammed Yusuf Khan passed away at a Mumbai hospital on Wednesday after a prolonged illness. He was 98.

Born on December 11, 1922, Khan was known professionally as Dilip Kumar. He was an Indian act, film producer and philanthropist, best known for his work in Hindi cinema. Referred as ‘The First Khan’, he has been credited for bringing the method acting technique to Indian cinema.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and many Bollywood actors including superstars such as Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Vidya Balan, Karan Johar etc. visit the legendary actor’s residence in Bandra to pay the last tributes.

Dilip Kumar’s last rites will be performed at Juhu Muslim cemetery in Santacruz West at around 5 pm and that his funeral will be taken out with the state honours.

Family friend Faisal Farooqui tweeted from the official twitter handle of Dilip Kumar saying, “With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Saab, a few minutes ago. We are from God and to him we return”

Known as a ‘Tragedy Kind’ and a serious actor, Dilip Kumar’s health deteriorated and that he was rushed to the hospital on June 30. After prolonged treatment at the hospital, Kumar breathed his last on Wednesday.

Earlier, Kumar was admitted in the hospital on June 6 and was put on the oxygen support and that he was stable. A message was tweeted from his official twitter handle stating, “Don’t believe in whatsapp forwards. Saab is stable. Thank you for your heartfelt duas and prayers. As per doctors, he should be home in 2-3 days”. However, Kumar was discharged from the hospital on June 11.
