Gujarat Govt approves 2pc DA hike for state employees
This move comes on the heels of a similar decision taken by the Central Government in March, where the DA for central employees was raised by 2%. The Gujarat government had last revised the DA in December 2024, applying a 53% allowance from July 1, 2024.

Gandhinagar, Gujarat : In a significant decision aimed at benefiting thousands of government employees, the Gujarat government has announced a 2% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA), raising it from 53% to 55% of the basic salary. The decision was finalized in a high-level cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar on Tuesday.
This move comes on the heels of a similar decision taken by the Central Government in March, where the DA for central employees was raised by 2%. The Gujarat government had last revised the DA in December 2024, applying a 53% allowance from July 1, 2024. With the current update, the state’s government employees will now receive a 55% DA on their basic salary, effective from the date notified by the finance department.
The announcement has sparked positive reactions among the government workforce across the state. Speaking on the occasion, a senior employee from the Education Department said, “We welcome this timely step by the government. With rising inflation and expenses, every increase counts. This decision shows that the state is acknowledging our service and commitment.”
Another employee working in the Health Department added, “This DA hike will help ease some of the financial pressure that many of us are facing. We hope the government continues to address employee welfare with such measures.”
The cabinet meeting not only discussed the DA revision but also reviewed various administrative matters. Sources confirmed that the hike aligns with the Gujarat government’s policy to match central government DA rates in a timely manner, ensuring parity and fairness for its workforce.
The Finance Department is expected to issue a formal notification soon, detailing the implementation date and calculation method for the revised allowance.
This announcement has been widely appreciated by government unions and employee organizations. It is expected to benefit lakhs of employees and pensioners across Gujarat, providing a welcome relief amid ongoing concerns over inflation and rising living costs.
