MSMEs in Vapi industrial estate urges GPCB to form a committee before issuing closure notices for the violation of environmental norms.

Surat : The medium and small scale industries operating in the Vapi industrial estate have urged the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) to form a committee for giving necessary directions, before issuing closure notices for failing to comply with the environmental norms.

In a representation submitted to GPCB chairman, Sanjeev Kumar, the medium and small scale industries in Vapi industrial estate stated the unit owners are struggling for their survival due to coronavirus pandemic and global economic slowdown. In such circumstances, the units should not be served with closure notices.

Instead, the unit owners must be given a fair chance to represent their case before the special committee formed by the GPCB. The committee so formed would give specific directions to the units over the environmental norms and the protocols to be followed.

Office-bearers of the Vapi Industries Association (VIA) said the small scale units are facing challenging times due to coronavirus pandemic. The GPCB will have to take proactive measures to engage the industrial units on complying the environmental norms, without giving them closure notices in the first place.

“If the industrial units do not comply with the environmental norms in the second attempts, such units should be served with closure notices. The XGN site for the industries members is user friendly compared to the online sites of other government departments” said honorary secretary of VIA, Satish Patel.
