Surat MP Darshana Jardosh among 43 leaders to sworn-in as Union Ministers today.

Surat : Surat’s Member of Parliament (MP), Darshana Jardosh is among the 43 leaders who will take oath in the Union Cabinet expansion on Wednesday.

In a list of leaders included in the cabinet reshuffle by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Jardosh’s name figured among the 43 leaders who will be sworn in as Union Ministers at 6 pm today.

Along with Jardosh, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Pashupati Kumar Paras, Bhupender Yadav, Anupriya Patel, Shobha Karandlaje, Meenakshi Lekhi, Ajay Bhatt and Anurag Thakur will also take oath as the Union ministers. Sarbananda Sonowal, Kiren Rijiju, Hardip Singh Puri and Ajay Bhatt are among the other leaders who are included in the list of leaders for cabinet expansion.

This is first occasion after many years that Surat will get its first Union Minister in the Centre in Darshana Jardosh. Earlier, late Kashiram Rana was the Union Textile Minister in the then Atal Bihari Vajpayee government in the Centre.

Darshana Jardosh is the current member of the Lok Sabha representing the Surat constituency in Gujarat. She is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and was elected to 15th Lok Sabha in 2009, followed by the 16th Lok Sabha in 2014 and 17th Lok Sabha in 2019.

In 2014, Jardosh won with a historic margin of 5,33,190 votes, which is the highest lead by any woman MP in Indian Electoral history after Indira Gandhi and the 4th highest lead in the 2014 elections. She won with a 76.6% vote share which is a record for the 2014 elections.

Jardosh is very much active when it comes to improving air connectivity from Surat. In 2009, she demanded international airport at Surat to boost the diamond trade. Time and again, she raised the airport issue in the Parliament and demanded to increase the flight connectivity from Surat to different parts of the country and the world.
